She wanted flowers, he wanted vegetables, a 4-foot by 8-foot box was built for their first garden together. That small box started a young couple on a journey that continues today, except instead of a 4 foot by 8-foot box the garden has grown exponentially and is affectionately named “The Farm”.

My name is Stacie Surowiec, the owner of Lavender and Posies, LLC a small flower and vegetable producer located in Forest Hill, MD. By day I am a Manager for a large healthcare system in the Baltimore area. My day to day career deals with revenue, lots of spreadsheets, and regulatory issues all of which can be stressful and draining. My garden keeps me grounded, rooted, and planted. There is nothing more exciting to me than watching a delicate seed become a gorgeous flower all by showering it with a little love by my own doing. I love slipping my muck boots on each morning to head out to the garden to see what is blooming while listening to the sounds of the birds chirping.

I had been eyeing up the Floret Workshop for several years and desperately wanted to attend. This past fall, I decided to take a leap of faith and enrolled in the course. I spent the winter learning and absorbing all that I could to take “The Farm” to the next level. Taking “The Farm” to the next level meant setting three goals for this year which were  improving the infrastructure of the garden area, work on succession planting, and start selling market bouquets and small arrangements.

When we are not tending to the garden you might find us hiking or riding mountain bikes, kayaking the local waterways, or off on our next glamping adventure with two teenage boys and our three dogs in tow.
